The largest agricultural crop in Los Osos didn’t blossom over night without some type of game plan and that is why it is suggested to have some sort of a blue print when rearing up to paint the interior of your house. A common place people like to start their house-painting venture is in the kitchen. Painting your kitchen is a great way to give it a fresh new look. Especially since cupboards and walls can start to look dull and paint can start to peel and crack.
First you need to decided where you are going to start and what you intend on painting. If you have cupboards that look like they need a refresher then you should start there first thing before you even think about touching the kitchen walls. You will need to decide if you are going to paint your cupboards or stain them. Either way you should scrape off old paint chunks and sand them. If you are staining the cupboards then you should make sure that there is a new fresh surface to work with so the stain can fully soak in. If you are simply repainting then sanding all the way down the wood isn’t as imperative.
Here are some simple steps to help prep you before even lifting that paintbrush:
• First, get the proper tools for the job and plan to spend most of your time on prepping your surfaces.
• Make sure your surfaces are completely clean. That means no old paint residue or dirty hands.
• If you don’t need to remove flakey paint it is a good idea to clean the surfaces with a cleaner that will remove grease and dirt that typically build up from years of cooking.
• Use putty to fill in any dings or surface markings.
• Then you will need to go over the surface with sand paper. A 100-grit sandpaper should do the job.
• Following a smooth sandpapered surface you will want to choose a primer based on the sheen of paint that you plan on using. For a glossy sheen you will want a high build primer. Two smooth coats usually do the trick.
• Make sure your cabinets are completely dry, and then take a light sand paper to them to smooth away any paintbrush strokes.
• Again, make sure your surfaces are clean, no dust.
• Now you are ready to apply the paint. For high traffic areas oil based paints are preferred because they tend to last longer and stay cleaner.
When going about painting your kitchen it is all about the preparatory work. Painting your home can bring a new life to your home and painting your kitchen cupboards can give your kitchen a quick face-lift for a cheap price. Remember when drinking your favorite wine from Los Osos that the winery wasn’t build over night. It took planning and a lot of preparatory work and it takes the same kind of planning when house painting.
